When lost in the woods of life with no idea on how to find hope, there is religion for the masses. Religion is a safety net in a way like ‘high wire’ acrobats use to save them if they slip. Drifting through life aimlessly is really not good for anyone over the long run. Wondering why we are here, when it ends and  where do we go, begins when a small child starts to think and consciously feel with fears. Life is filled with mysteries, some that as one evolves spiritually can be experienced and/or seen.

There are basically three types of people who gravitate into a religion, although there are endless reasons that can be attached to those three. One is those who are sick, meaning ill of health from any of a number of reasons. Possibly overlapping are people who are lost and need to establish meaning and direction, also feeling that belonging to an organized community led by someone well versed in that particular religion, which leads to the third one – the leader of a religion who I refer to as the religion salesman.

In the US, there are over 500,000 ministers, pastors, deacons, priests, imams, rabbi’s, or whatever religion leader’s  name they might use to facilitate teaching others doctrine of their particular belief.  A  coach or master might be another term for guidance ‘of the way’, which is a simple definition of religion. Most need rules and regulations to keep them on the straight and narrow path to a more positive consciousness, and in most religions, a path that increases the odds of an afterlife that is a reward for deep belief. Otherwise religions have their own interpretation of a ‘hell’ which is eternal, although in Buddhism, you can work your way out of it.

Religions are clearly needed as humans are mostly still in early stages of evolution as ‘love beings’, and instead are led by desires, fears, reactions, and lack of evolved spiritual qualities. Religions are positive if used with open, positive intentions. Religions are schools for right behavior and repentance for wrong behavior. All organized religions have scriptures which if endlessly clung to in the mind limits the transfer to the heart and a ‘being of love’.

The true religion can only be one, just like science. You don’t have a Muslim physics, a Hindu physics, a Christian physics; that would be nonsense. But that’s what the religions have done – they have made the whole earth a madhouse. Going beyond religion is not for everyone, in fact few. In a more enlightened age there will be no such thing as religion but a science of consciousness – the way to a deepest love and compassion.
